Dr Baljinder Makowal; DVM, Practice Owner

Dr Makowal graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. To gain his Veterinary Clinical experience, he attended Iowa State University in Ames. Dr Makowal has gained extensive experience in small animal medicine, surgical and emergency care in Michigan and Ontario. On April 1, 2005, Dr Makowal became the new owner of Simcoe Street North Veterinary Clinic. Dr Makowal served as a Board member for the HSDR for 7 years. The practice has grown from just over 2000 pets too approximately 7500. He is married with 3 children, and spends time with his pal 'Max' a domestic short hair cat.

Dr Ihab Messiha, DVM; Locum Veterinarian


Dr Messiha graduated from the VSTEP program in Guelph Ontario. He started his career in Lethbridge Alberta in 2007. He has also worked for the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Clinic in their ER department. Dr Messiha started working for Simcoe Street North Veterinary Clinic in February 2010. His main interests are internal medicine, critical care and preventative medicine. He is married with 2 children and has a Shih Tzu mix named 'Rico'

Jacqueline Feret, Office Manager


Jackie graduated the Animal Care Aid program from Ontario Business College in 1986. Before starting to work at a veterinarian clinic, she use to breed and show Himalayan and Persian cats. In 1990, she started working for her former boss as a receptionist/assistant and continued to work for her until the practice was bought by Dr. Makowal in 2005. In 2010 Jackie became the Office Manager but still spends the bulk of her time at the front desk. Her quiet time at home is spent with her 2 domestic short hair cats; 'Serena' who is 13 years old and 'Lemieux' who is 5 years old. Jackie also adopted a Harlequin Great Dane at the age of one and now has found her forever home.

Dawn Sebris, Registered Veterinary Technician


Dawn graduated from St. Clair College in 1995 gaining her Veterinarian Technician diploma. She then went on to complete her Ontario Association of Veterinary Technician Registration exam the same year earning her the RVT Certificate. Dawn started She then started working as a Technician in 1995, with the previous owner of Simcoe Street Veterinary Clinic. Dawn remained at Simcoe Street North when the practice was bought by Dr Makowal in 2005, her experience helped Dr Makowal with his transition. In her spare time, Dawn shares the company of her two dogs; 'Willow' a 2 year old Beagle and her 2 year old Bichon Frise 'Diamond'.

Amanda Kelly; Receptionist


Amanda graduated from the Veterinarian Assistant program at Durham College in 2010. Within a few months of graduating, she started working for Simcoe Street North Veterinary Clinic. Amanda's main duties here are Receptionbut you will find her also assisting the Veterinarians when needed. Amanda has also volunteered with the HSDR as well as the SPCA. Amanda spends her spare time with her fur babies; 'Mya' , a 4 year old Domestic Short Hair, 'Zelda', a 16 month old Domestic Medium Hair and 'Mr Butters' a 1 year old Domestic Long Hair.

Jordan Whitaker; Receptionist; UOIT Student

received_10207102649192437.jpegJordan started out at Simcoe Street North Veterinary Clinic as a Co-Op student in high school. After she completed her high school requirements, she then started to volunteer with us on Saturday's. Jordan started as an employee here in 2013. She is currently enrolled in the UOIT Biology program en route to become a Veterinarian. Filling in her time between classes, Jordan is employed here with us and she also works for the Oshawa Zoo. We love all of the pictures she has with the Zoo animals. When she has spare time, she spends it with her Great Dane 'Carolina Blue', and much to her mothers' dismay; she also brings home critters from the Zoo that need home care.
